Raise your hand if you’ve personally experienced the pressure to keep showing up when you want to do anything but (you can’t see me, but my hand is up—and it’s high). But, whether it’s for a three-day weekend vacation or taking a flight for a two-week stay overseas, marketing your interior design business shouldn’t be the thing keeping you from actually enjoying your time off.

You didn’t create your business to be a content creator filming your beach stay, even if it sometimes feels like it. But, how do you manage marketing your business while you’re on vacation? How do you make sure you’re staying visible online even when you’re not online?

Here’s what you need to know:

How to Market Your Interior Design Business While You’re OOO

Before you make an assumption, managing your marketing for your interior design business while you’re on vacation is more than scheduling out your Instagram posts.

While scheduling your posts CAN be super helpful, setting your marketing up for success starts BEFORE your vacation even begins (not just the posts that go live during it). The way you market your business leading up to your vacation impacts how well your content performs while you’re OOO.

Also, while social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Threads are a great way to stay active and present, they aren’t the only way to market your business (but more on that another day).

For now, here are some of my top tips for marketing while you’re on vacation:

#1. Plan Ahead

Yes, schedule your posts if you can, but also consider what you’re posting about. What actions or engagement are you asking for?

Are you directing them to book a call (where, once booked, they’ll get an auto-response outlining the days you’re offline and allowing them to inquire without you needing to lift a finger)? Or are you asking them to comment on your posts, knowing you’ll get back to those comments once you’re online?

#2. Stay Consistent, But Don’t Go Overboard

It’s okay to step back during a weekend, week, or even month-long vacation — the point is to stay consistent while you’re offline, so you’re not coming back to Instagram feeling like you have to “revive” your audience that you kinda ghosted.

Pro tip: Book a strategy session with an expert to get advice and strategy for your marketing before, during, and after your vacation!

#3. Lean More Into Other Marketing Avenues

During the weeks leading up to your vacation, share on socials how you’ll be OOO for a bit, and that if they want to stay connected while you’re offline, they can sign up for your email list.

As a bonus, consider setting up a welcome sequence so they’re fed emails throughout your vacation, without you having to create new content!

#4. Consider Pairing Your Short-Term with Long-Term

Taking a vacation can feel like you’re throwing a wrench in your business’s growth if you’re solely dependent on Instagram for client inquiries, which is why I always recommend diversifying your lead sources.

Knowing you have a presence on multiple channels like Instagram, Pinterest, and your blog (and that not all of these platforms need daily posts) can make a huge difference in how stressful it feels to market your interior design business while you’re on vacation.

But, The Best Way to Manage is to….

Get support!

Support doesn’t have to mean you invest thousands of dollars into done-for-you social media management. You can find “get-it-done” support to guide you as you set up your marketing to work for you while you’re offline.

One of the reasons I created SMM on Speed Dial (my membership for interior designers, where you get 1:1 access to an experienced social media manager for any and every question that comes up) is for situations like these. Together we can strategize how much you’ll post and what steps you need to take to truly log off and enjoy your vacation.

Whether you’re heading to the lake or planning a European getaway, I’m here to make sure social media doesn’t ruin your summer!  Sound like something you need? Learn more about SMM on Speed Dial here.
