You’ve been gathering pictures of projects for years and your phone is filled with messages from happy clients praising your work — but do you know how to use these reviews in your marketing? Testimonials are said to be one of the most powerful tools for sales (for good reason, you can’t beat social proof)… except you never hear how to get your testimonials to work for you. And unfortunately, just copying & pasting them into a basic graphic isn’t going to cut it.
Instead of second-guessing your every step, here are a few ways to use the testimonials you’ve gathered to market your interior design business:
How to Use Testimonials in Your Marketing as an Interior Designer
I want to clarify: the tips I’m sharing go beyond just publishing photos from your latest project or adding a few new highlights to your portfolio. In this post, you’ll learn how to market using true testimonials — the thoughts, feelings, and ideas your clients share during and after your project.
Yes, it can include images — but they’re not the “selling point.” The transformation your client experienced AND how they feel about it is.
Here’s what it looks like to use testimonials in your marketing:
#1. Instagram Feed Posts
One of the best ways to use your interior design testimonials in your marketing is to turn them into carousels or static posts. Carousels can be used to highlight testimonials from multiple projects by adding the feedback and your client’s name on each slide (this post is a great example!) while static posts work well for featuring the feedback of a singular client.
You can also use Instagram reels to feature testimonials by asking your client for a video testimonial or overlaying the testimonial over a video of the completed project (this is the perfect post for those days you have nothing to post).
#2. Case Studies on Your Blog
Marketing your interior design business isn’t limited to social media. You can (and should) blog, too! Blogging is ideal for long-form content, like case studies, and improving your SEO aka search engine optimization.
Use your client’s testimonials and the images from their project to create a case study that walks readers through the process of working with you. Highlight the specifics of the project (is it a renovation? What’s their style? Were there any issues that you were able to solve/resolve?). I love adding my client’s case studies to my own blog (here’s an example!)
Pssst…You can also pin your case study blog post to Pinterest to get even more visibility and longevity from it!
#3. Threads
I was an early adopter of Threads and while they’re still working out some of the glitches, it’s one of the best platforms to be seen. There’s no “hierarchy” to posting — your post has as much of a chance to be seen as mine (and everyone else on the platform).
It’s a text-based platform — although you can share images — and it’s very conversational, which makes it ideal for testimonials! Unlike your IG feed or your blog, you can get more casual in your posts. Rather than copy-pasting your client’s testimonials at the end of your project, instead use Threads to share the little wins as you go.
For example, let’s say you source a stunning living room set or custom Zellige tile and your client immediately responds with “How did you find this? I’m in love with it.” You can share this glowing feedback indirectly (or directly, with consent from your client) on Threads!
Getting Your Testimonials to Work for You
Testimonials are one of the most impactful ways to market your interior design business because they show what it’s really like to be your client – but figuring out how to use them in your marketing can be a pain. Take advantage of the space on your IG feed, mix in some long-form content, and consider trying a new platform, like Threads, to get the most out of the feedback your clients leave you.
The more people see (and read) about how wonderful working with you is, the more likely they are to work with you, too.
