Looking for a new social media management client? I’ve got just the solution (three, actually). Finding clients doesn’t have to be a dreaded chore, and I’m going to show you how.
Btw – hey social media manager! I’m so glad to meet you. I’m Amber Broder, and I’ve been running ABC Social Media Management for two years now. Along the way I’ve had to find my first clients, lose some of those clients, and replace those that have left – and learned a lot in the process. If you’re wondering where to find and connect with your next client, check out this list of 3 ideas!
Your Network
Whether you’re just starting out on your social media management journey or have been at this a while, one of the easiest ways to find a new client is by reaching out to your network! If you haven’t gotten any clients yet, this could look like reaching out to local business owners you know, past employers or coworkers, as well as family and friends. If you have a couple clients under your belt, don’t be afraid to reach out and let them know you’re taking on new clients, and would always appreciate a referral! I like to thank clients & peers who refer me with a referral bonus (I give them 15% of the new client’s first payment, or they can choose to apply that to a service) but that isn’t mandatory.
Sue me, but I still believe Instagram is the CORE marketing platform that every business should be on. Yep, still an Instagram girlie through and through! I’ve found the vast majority of my clients through marketing myself on Instagram. It’s most effective when you have a clear idea of who you want to work with. For example, I specialize in interior designers and engage with that industry regularly in order to find new leads.
TikTok is an option, but I find it more exhausting than Instagram (that’s just me though).
Facebook Groups
And no, not the spammy entrepreneurship facebook groups with hundreds of thousands of members – those are (most likely) not your people! Instead, find industry-specific Facebook groups and start showing up there with social media-related value. If you like to work with realtors, join groups geared towards agents & brokerages! This one can be a bit of a long game, but I’ve found a lot of success in building connections through groups.
You can also find job postings in groups specifically for online service providers like the Social Savvy Collective and The Break Room.
