5 Summer Content Ideas You Can Use for Your Interior Design Business

Instagram Tips

The only type of “burnt” you should be this summer is sunburnt – not burnt out from trying to come up with new content ideas for your interior design Instagram. But although it might seem out of reach, creating content doesn’t have to suck up all your free time – and you can have a stress-free summer while continuing to grow your social media following.

Ready to get started? Here are five summer content ideas you can use (and reuse) this summer so you can grow your socials (and your brand) while taking that break you’ve earned.

You Don’t Need to Be “ON” 24/7 This Summer

Contrary to what you might hear from the “growth gurus”, the last thing you need to do this summer to grow your interior design business is post constantly and scroll all day. You do not need to be “on” 24/7 to have a thriving business. You can log off, connect with friends and family, find inspiration outside of your usual places (I’m looking at you, Instagram), and rest.

And honestly, it’ll make your business BETTER to do so. Getting off of Instagram and out into the real world – and even away from work! – will help you be more creative, not less.

When You Do Post, Use These Summer Content Ideas:

You can post them all, or pick and choose – it’s up to you! Here are the content ideas that’ll save you time (and stress) this summer as an interior designer:

#1. Your Projects in Progress

Best for: Instagram, Facebook

Maybe you’re not kicking off any projects at the moment – but you’re probably still working on a few! And summer is the perfect time to get people thinking about what home updates they might want to make when their kids are back in school.

Share the behind the scenes of any of your projects in progress. Take some b-roll while on a site visit, share a carousel walking your audience through what’s happened before, or film an update talking to the camera.

By sharing your projects that are underway, you’ll keep your audience invested and get them even more excited to see the before and after when you finish!!

Pro tip: Share the same post – with just a few tweaks – on Facebook for more visibility!

#2. Share Your Favorite Summer Decor Finds

Best for: Blog, Pinterest, Instagram

Technically, you can publish this anywhere, but if you have a blog, I highly recommend sharing your favorite summer decor finds there first. It’s the perfect way to get all your links together – bonus if you’re using affiliate links –  before sharing across other platforms.

(Blogs are also great for improving your discoverability through SEO and for your long-term marketing – and can be scheduled months in advance)

These decor roundups with a seasonal focus are incredibly popular on Pinterest, so make the most of your blogging efforts and share a few pins linking back to your write-up!

And finally, you can turn your decor picks into a carousel and story series for Instagram. From just one blog post, you might have 7-10 pieces of social media content!

#3. The Questions You Get on Repeat

Best for: Everywhere

The questions you’re always being asked – the ones from clients, followers in your IG DMs, in your consult calls – THOSE questions are the ones you need to make content around. And post them everywhere.

From your website to Instagram posts to stories to blog posts that you then pin to, pre-empt the questions you’re always getting from clients and followers by giving them the answers before they even have to ask.

The best part about creating content around your FAQs is that writing these should come easily (you’ve already answered them!) not to mention it will help pre-qualify leads before they inquire (and it’s perfect for repurposing).

#4. Summer Fun Dump

Best for: Instagram, Stories

You have to let your people see the human behind the business!! Your social feed doesn’t need to look like an influencer’s page, but if your followers – or subscribers – have no idea who you are and what you look like, you’re going to struggle to stand out in a sea of interior designers.

How this translates to summer: let your people see behind the scenes! Share a story while you’re out and about, whether it’s a fun day out with the family or a new restaurant you’re trying. Bonus points if it’s design related, like going shopping for a new piece of decor! You’re marketing, BUT you get to have fun while doing it. . It’s a two-for-one 😉

Psst….. Spin this as a “day in the life” and post a reel inviting your audience to come behind the scenes with you – and you can 100% change this to a “week in the life” if a day doesn’t give you enough content to work with.

#5. Talk About Your Availability

Best for: Instagram, Stories, Threads

Not available during the summer?? No big deal – enjoy your time off.

But while you’re not booking right now, you CAN share the dates when you are! Post on stories, in a pinned post, your newsletter, and threads about your time off (and that you’re OOO). This will keep your community in the loop – and the lurkers will know why they’re not seeing the same content they’re used to.

Just don’t forget to ALSO share how they can get in touch to save their spot or book a consult cal with you in advance (and if you don’t have a formalized inquiry process, take this as your sign to set up those systems).

How to Create Consistent Summer Content as an Interior Designer

The BEST way to stay consistent this summer (or next) with your content as an interior designer is to plan ahead. I always recommend planning 30 to 90 days in your content calendar – and use it as a guideline, not a rulebook.

Planning your content ahead of time means you can design, record, or put together everything before you need it to go live.

Yes, it can be intimidating on its own – I mean, it IS almost 100 days of content to plan – but you can also get support! In SMM on Speed Dial, my social media membership for interior designers, one of the main things we do is work on planning your content, staying consistent, and planning for moments like these.
