Easy Instagram Bio Formula for Interior Designers

For Interior Designers, Instagram Tips

Your Instagram profile is your first impression – and what you decide to write is the difference between someone sticking around, binging your content and falling in love with your work, or continuing to scroll because they aren’t immediately engaged by what they see. And of course, we want yours to cause the first reaction! In this post I’m breaking down my easy Instagram bio formula for interior designers.

Easy Instagram Bio Formula for Interior Designers

Part I: Your Name Field

Your name field is the black, bolded section at the top of your Instagram profile. It might seem obvious what to put here – your name, right?

Wrong.

Or at least, you don’t want to put just your name.

Doing so means you’ll miss out on valuable search traffic and discoverability. That name field is one of the few areas of your Instagram that is searchable – meaning, if someone types in words into Instagram’ search bar that you have in your name field, your profile can appear in their results. This is Instagram’s version of SEO. (Psst: Confused about Instagram SEO? Here’s how to use it for your business).

If you only have your name or business name in your name field, you’re limiting your discoverability only to people who already know you. And one of the purposes of social media is for NEW people to find you! So instead of using your name (which is likely already in your username), opt for terms that someone who is

  • looking for an interior designer who does what you do
  • but doesn’t know of YOU specifically yet

would search for. For example, your name field could read

Alexa | Florida Interior Designer for Luxury Family Homes

or Francesca | California Interior Design Studio | Home Decor Shop

Part II: Your Bio Itself

Now we get to the meat of your bio: the section that appears under your name field, before your link. This is where you have the chance to keep someone around! But you only have 150 characters, so fitting everything you do into that short space can feel daunting. Here’s my easy bio formula:

  • Line #1: A statement that describes what you do or who you work with
  • Line #2: An authority builder of some sort (ex homes designed, years designing, features)
  • Line #3: A call to action directed at your link

For example, your bio could read:

🏠 Designing houses that feel like homes

🤍 100+ client projects completed

⤵️ Let us transform your space

And yes, I do recommend using emojis to make reading your bio easier on the eyes!

Part III: Your Link

It might feel like you should stuff every possible link in your bio, whether through a tool like Linktree or by adding multiple links through Instagram’s functionality. The truth? Stick to ONE link whenever possible to reduce decision fatigue and increase your chances that someone will actually follow through on the action you want them to take.

In most cases, I recommend interior designers link to the inquiry page of your website. If this is well-designed, your inquiry page should include some examples of your work and address the most important information someone interested in working with you should know.

However, if your goal isn’t to attract new projects right now – maybe you’re focusing on your shop, or want to draw attention to a specific project – you can always swap out the link for a different one!

Bonus: Your Pinned Posts and Highlights

We’ve come to the end of your bio, but someone’s first impression doesn’t stop there! Your highlights and pinned posts also play a role in whether someone hits follow or not.

My favorite way to think about your highlights is to treat them like mini-pages of your website. You should have key information easily accessible, including

  • Your Story + About Your Firm
  • Your Services
  • Client Love/Reviews
  • Projects (either as one highlight, or split up by project)
  • and Behind the Scenes/Personal

Avoid overloading your highlights – while you get up to 100 stories per highlight, I do not recommend using all 100 spots! Keep them succinct and curated.

And for pinned posts, make sure to read this guide to using them strategically.
